I'm a structural geologist and lecturer at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. I'm interested in all types of rock structures and their relation to small- and large-scale tectonic processes.
Senior lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, Department of Earth Sciences, Sweden
Lecturer at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany
2008 – 2011
Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Australia
Dr.rer.nat. (summa cum laude)
My recent research activities are related to all aspects of quantitative rock structural analysis from micro to macro scale. I work with all type of rocks including natural and artifical ice. I work also on various regional structural geology and tectonic projects such as in Western Australia, Portugal and Macedonia
Here you can download supplementary material related to my research, and the latest releases of our software for rock-structure quantification,
A short summary of my research and teaching experience
My main research interests are in all aspects of quantitative rock structural analysis from micro to macro scale. Mineral crystallography and complex rock fabrics such as mineral distribution patterns and pattern anisotropy are used to obtain quantitative kinematic data on the progress of deformation in metamorphic and magmatic rocks and, in ice. To obtain these data, microstructural studies and laboratory experiments using rock analogues such as norcamphor and ice are combined with image analysis techniques and GIS applications and, new methods to determine rock structures were developed. Results from these quantitative studies are tested in field-based projects in Australia, Brazil, Portugal and Macedonia.
Courses in structural geology and, field and mapping courses in structural geology.
